BURBERRY LAUNCHES IN MINECRAFT

Burberry is the latest fashion brand to enter Minecraft's metaverse. The British label has collaborated with the GOAT of gaming to bring checks and trenchcoats into The Overworld, and Minecraft motifs into the real world.

DECENTRALAND METAVERSE FESTIVAL LINEUP ANNOUNCED

Soulja Boy, Ozzy Osbourne and Dillon Francis will perform at this year's event, and the DCL team hopes to recreate a real-life festival experience, complete with atmospheric rain (every festival needs mud), custom dance moves called ‘emotes,’ pop-up nightclubs and even a virtual porta-potty experience!

K-POP GROUP AESPA DROPS NFT COLLECTION WITH SOTHEBY'S

aespa, the “virtual hybrid” K-pop group, has joined forces with Sotheby’s to launch an NFT collection dubbed “æ Girls", featuring an exclusive pass with access to a physical meet-and-greet at the group’s concert in Seoul.

WARNER BROS RELEASE ETHEREUM-COMPATIBLE ‘LORD OF THE RINGS’ NFTS

Each NFT features a 4K copy of the extended edition of The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring—the first film in Peter Jackson's Oscar-winning Tolkien trilogy— as well as behind-the-scenes footage, photos, and exclusive assets inspired by the film.

77% OF ALL NFT ART SALES GO TO MEN

When it comes to NFT art, most of the attention—and most of the sales—are going to male creators. A study by research agency Art Tactic from November found that as much as 77% of all NFT art sales go to men. In an effort to change this stark disparity, NFT marketplace MakersPlace partnered with Excedrin, by the British health care company Haleon, to start Equal Bytes, an accelerator program focused on women artists in Web3. The Equal Bytes cohort will be selected by a group of accomplished Web3 artists, including Shurooq Amin, a Kuwaiti artist who turned to NFTs and digital art after an art exhibition of hers was censored by Kuwait’s Government.

SEC INVESTIGATING BORED APE CREATOR YUGA LABS

The Securities and Exchange Commission has the NFT industry, and Bored Ape Yacht Club creator Yuga Labs, in its sights. Bloomberg reported in March that the agency had opened a probe into the NFT industry, including NFTs from Yuga, and the cryptocurrency it has adopted for its Otherside metaverse, ApeCoin.

META TARGETS WORKING PROFESSIONALS

Platforms Inc. unveiled its newest virtual-reality headset last Tuesday, a foray into the world of high-end VR devices designed to entice creators and working professionals to adopt Mark Zuckerberg’s vision for an immersive digital future.

VAULT SHUT DOWN BY CNN

CNN has been accused of a “rug pull” after it suddenly shut down its Web3 project Vault, leaving collectors blindsided. CNN said that it originally launched the project in June 2021 as a six-week experiment, though support from the community kept it going for over a year.

ETRI DOUBLES REAL TIME COLLABORATION PLATFORM CAPACITY

ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) researchers have developed a metaverse platform that allows for freely collaborating among multi users via various means of communications online and offline. With existing technology, real-time collaboration of about five people is possible, but the research team has developed a technology that supports user-to-user interaction and remote collaboration in real time through data synchronization for up to 11 participants, doubling the capacity compared to other similar metaverse platforms.
